“One of the great finds in life is when you can switch AAA into art, athletics and academics—that is the pulse and the reason behind paint day; Kga and the Zina Garrison Academy,” states Interior and Art Furniture Designer Kelly Gale Amen. Amen started paint day 10 years ago when the Academy asked him to come up with something that would expose the children to something outside of athletics.
The concept is straightforward and fun-filled. Amen sets up giant canvases’s for paint day and let’s the kids have at them with paint and tennis balls. It’s not unusual for his furniture to be there to also be creatively decorated by the children. This year artists J. Antonio Farfan, Debbie Porter and the Avenue of Houston’s own, Sergio Santos were assigned six of the canvases’s to create multimedia pieces that will help raise funds for the academy.
The pieces will be showcased at Stetzel and Associates at the Decorative Center Houston in a pop-up boutique by Amen with KGA art furniture helping to raise funds as well. “Zina garrison, one of my heroes and someone who I believe is an icon of life and the living process, who the academy is named for, will also be there to join in the fun,” explains Amen. It should be a spectacular event and all for a good cause!
