Actress Maureen McCormick held the audience at the Hilton Americas-Houston in rapt attention as she shared her personal journey through depression and addiction during a fundraising luncheon benefiting the Menninger Clinic.
Although she has written a book on her struggles, Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice, this was the first time that she had spoken publicly about her journey and the family history of mental illness that afflicted her grandparents, parents and siblings.
The luncheon honored Barbara and Corby Robertson Jr., who helped bring the renowned psychiatric treatment and research hospital to Houston from Kansas a decade ago.
Beth Robertson and Bess and Rob Wilson III chaired the event that drew more than 500 guests and raised more than $550,000 for mental health treatment, research and education.
Applauding their efforts were Menninger president and CEO Ian Aitken and supporters including Lillie Robertson, Maureen Hackett, Nancy and Jim Gordon, Flo McGee, Ann Trammell, Jennifer and Michael Hanson, Elaine Finger, Kelly Gale Amen and Sue Trammell Whitfield.
